Calling all online business owners, both experienced and new to the game. I want you to answer this:
Do you like your clients?
Listen to that instinctual reaction- maybe yours was an “absolutely yes,” “honestly, they’re draining” or “just sometimes,”
*don’t worry, your secret’s safe with us*
Whether you feel this way about your clients as a whole, or have a particular client that stands out in your mind, do you know why was that immediate reaction so distinct? Because we are deeply connected to every client we sign on.
The biggest element of “scope creep” is how much time off-the-clock we spend thinking & dreaming for our clients. They might weave into conversation with your S.O, be the reason you lose count of reps during your workout, or you might find yourself happily dedicating ever more project-hours than necessary to ensure they are happy.
Clients are so very much a part of our day to day existence as CEO’s, service pro’s, consultants, and coaches that it’s imperative we feel aligned with those on the roster. Not only will you see positive changes in your day to day work, you’ll see a major shift in how you pour back into each client (& your mental and emotional health!)
No matter how long you’ve been in business, taking the time to do a ‘soul search update’ will help you amplify your packages, approach, and who you’re attracting.
TL;DR: It’s about YOU more than it’s about them.
Use these questions to get introspective and workshop your way to your next dream client.
I suggest you grab a journal, or blank google sheet, and brain dump your thoughts, ideas, and reactions to the questions below. You’ll be amazed at what pours out when you get “into flow.” Before you know it, you’ll have created social, blog, or website copy just by writing from your heart.
1. What do I wish existed in my niche or industry, and how can I be the one to create it?
Think as big or as detailed as you want here, imagine the highest peak of your industry and work backwards to create a path to summit it yourself. Your client is likely waiting at that point, so it’s your job to forge a way to them. This might look like a fresh perspective that you’ve held in your brain just waiting to be used in education, a big picture offer that no one else in your niche is currently offering, or even a hyper custom 1:1 package that allows clients to build their own ideal client experience.
Write from the heart here and really think deeper about what gaps exist and how you can fill them.
2. How can I focus all my attention on SERVING my customers deepest needs, wants, and desires?
Look at your personality as an online business owner. This can go anywhere that feels right to you, but jump into this question with the frame of:
3. How would I act if I knew my clients were already on their way to me?
Your dream client is out there, so envision how you would prepare if you knew they’d be knocking on your door in a week.
Use this point to batten down the hatches and essentially “project proof” your business so that even if your focus is drawn to your dream client, your business will continue to run smoothly.
4. How would I behave if I was the best in the world at what I did?
Show up as that person, because the potential already lies within you. You would certianly show up in a bold, enthusiastic way if you knew that you were leading the industry. Find a way to unlock that inner confidence of your next-level self:
5. How can I add more value and help increase the quality of someone’s life in this very moment?
Dig deep into your unique area of expertise and find an alternative take on what providing value means. To start off, consider:
Now, look at where you’re able to provide that value and apply it to what your dream client needs.
6. How can I make ongoing education a non-negotiable habit so I’m constantly improving my business skills?
Consider this a personal commitment to yourself and to your ideal client. First, define what you need to be able to say, “I’m showing up and giving of myself today” without getting overwhelmed, resentful, or burnt out. Only you know the true answer, but that might look something like:
Whatever your must-haves are, you’ll want to be very considerate of them as you step closer to signing on that dream client.
Congratulations, you’ve just shared your personal inspiration, innovations, and ideas in a free flowing way that will drive your dream client conversions. Now, go over your writings and decide, point by point, exactly how you’re going to implement/make changes/upgrade. Your dream clients are just around the corner, so get prepared and get excited to serve at a higher level.
