“Your price tag is saying things about your brand whether you mean it to or not.”
Most entrepreneurs treat pricing like math homework: cover your costs, hit your income goal, call it a day.
But here’s the catch – your pricing isn’t just numbers.
It’s messaging.
It’s market positioning.
It’s a megaphone blasting out who you are, how you deliver, and whether you’re operating as the go-to authority in your space or the “nice to have” they’ll get around to later.
Let’s break down how your prices speak for you, even when you’re not in the room.
Price is a Signal, Not a Sticker
Pricing isn’t just a number slapped on a sales page – it’s a signal. A subconscious cue your audience reads before they’ve even scanned the deliverables.
A $197 program doesn’t just say, “affordable”; it says, “starter level, accessible, low-risk.” A $5K program doesn’t just say, “premium”; it says, “exclusive, high-touch, serious transformation.”
Before you even get the chance to talk about your curriculum, your expertise, or your process, your price tag has already whispered a story about you. The question is: are you in control of that story?
The Market Matrix Point
Where you sit in the market isn’t random – it’s a three-point equation:
Price (what you charge)
Promise (what you deliver)
Positioning (how you’re seen)
I call this your Market Matrix Point.
If your price, promise, and positioning are aligned, your audience gets instant clarity: “This is exactly what I need, and I understand the value.”
But when they’re misaligned? That’s when friction shows up:
You’re too cheap for the transformation you’re promising, so people second-guess if it’s legit.
You’re too premium without the authority messaging to back it up, so people assume it’s overpriced fluff.
Undervaluing because of fear. You don’t want to scare off buyers, so you slash your price and accidentally undercut your authority.
Overpricing without support. You hike up the price without tightening the messaging, so your offer feels inflated.
Inconsistent pricing across your suite. One program looks like a steal, another looks random, and together they confuse your market.
Your pricing can either cleanly reinforce your credibility… or quietly chip away at it.
Pricing as a Growth Lever
When you stop thinking of pricing as “covering costs” and start treating it like a lever, you can:
Run a price-going-up promotion. It drives urgency and signals growth.
Introduce tiers. This lets your market self-select into levels of access without you leaving money on the table.
Fill in your market gaps. If you notice clients hitting a wall between your low-ticket and high-ticket offers, you can create an intentional mid-tier that catches and ascends them.
The goal? To design your pricing so it doesn’t just cover the bills – it positions you as a market leader and moves people through your ecosystem with ease.
I’ve seen it play out again and again: the second a client realigns their pricing to match their authority, their sales velocity shifts. Demand stops being unpredictable. The audience reads their price as, “Oh, she’s the real deal.”
Your prices aren’t neutral. They’re powerful brand signals, shaping how your market perceives you, what they expect from you, and whether they buy now or wait until “someday.”
